BRAND
Sawa Takai founded her namesake label with her sister Rie in New York in 2012, presenting her first capsule women's collection. Her design is heavily influenced by menswear and reflects the detailing and techniques she has learned through her experience with menswear designers both in NY and Milan.
Sawa Takai was born in Gifu, Japan. At the age of 15, she moved to the United States. She attended Fashion Institute of Technology in New York to pursue design, where she also took a year to study abroad at the Politecnico di Milano.
MANUFACTURE
All sawa takai products are made in Japan.
Our team maintains close relationship with sewing factories and other production facilities, occasionally visiting local production areas to maintain and improve product quality. By doing this, we aim to work together to develop local industries in a sustainable manner.
Additionally, in our manufacturing efforts, we are always strongly conscious of contributing to healthier working environments for our partner businesses and their staff.
CHARITY PATCHWORK TEDDY
"SAWA TAKAI CHARITY PATCHWORK TEDDY" is a project launched in 2024.
These patchwork teddy bears are created using a variety of textiles from the sawa takai collection archives.
Each bear is handmade from randomly selected fabric and is therefore one of a kind.

From this project, all proceeds excluding costs will be donated to a reputable animal welfare organization.

The world we live in is facing various animal-related issues. Sawa Takai is a cat lover herself and lives with Chili, a cat she rescued in New York. She wanted to think about what she could do and take action for animals on a broader scale, which led her to start this charity project.
Although it is a very small action, we hope that those who purchase or see this sawa takai teddy will start to pay attention to the issues facing animals around the world, and that it will inspire them to think about the happiness of animals, sometimes with their family and friends.
